FRMR

Andrew Farmer, otherwise known as FRMR, is a songwriter and poet from Desertmartin, Northern Ireland. Formerly performing with folk troupe Sons of Caliber, Andrew’s latest project FRMR has emerged from the deep forests of his own inner augury having spent the last few years evolving the rugged contours of his sound.

His debut record Amelanchier is a melodic hybrid that welds both song and spoken word into one harmonious score. A post folk murmuration idling along electronic borders, FRMR weaves old with new in a distinct and elegiac way.

A paean to the natural world, Amelanchier is a record filled with memories, some real, some imagined and invocations of growing up on the land and making sense of our relationship with it. Contained in these musings is an ode to this deep, delicate relationship and the sacredness to which we should hold, of the lost trails of nature and the gradually evolving traditions of rural life.

Composed over the course of two years, Amelanchier was recorded semi-remotely at Andrew’s home studio and during a series of studio sessions with producer Michael Mormecha (Tree Song Studios) from 2019 and into early 2021, growing from a gentle murmuration on a theme of our interrelationship with the natural world to a fully-fledged, full-length LP.

On the creation of the record, Andrew notes: “This is a record filled with memories from a youth spent growing up “on the land”. I’ve always felt an affinity with nature, to the outdoors and the sacred nature of our delicate yet complex relationship with it. Amelanchier draws on that relationship - of connection with real places and dreams of the byways and back-roads of a rural life gradually evolving and in many cases eroding.”

Amelanchier was produced by Michael Mormecha and features guest performances from Jude Moses, Rachael Boyd and Luke Bannon.
